About Frederick
For two years as Composer in Residence at Eton College I taught composition classes to years 9, 10, 11 and 12, as well as on a one-to-one basis to pupils aged 13-18. I also taught piano and theory and provided coaching for ABRSM exams (including aural skills). As an undergraduate I gave supplementary lessons to students on the Piano MA course at the University of York, in addition to my other private piano pupils.

I am a professional composer and pianist based in York. Having recently completed my tenure as Composer in Residence at Eton College, I am now studying towards a PhD at the University of York as a WRoCAH scholar.
I teach piano, composition and theory to all ages and abilities.
Since starting to learn the piano at the relatively late age of 14, I have been completely obsessed with and devoted to music. As a teacher, I consider it my primary goal and privilege to help illuminate for students what makes music so essential.
For piano, lessons can be tailored towards those hoping to take exams, however there is no pressure to do so under my tutelage. I would be just as enthusiastic helping students tackle specific repertoire or improve their general technique.
Similarly, composition lessons could be used to supplement Music GCSE or A-level courses, or to provide a general tuition in which we analyse composition techniques and implement said techniques through practical work and exercises.
