In order to have a certain structure I have divided the long-term learning of Bharatanatyam into small courses. The courses are just meant for time frame and a student can continue the learning depending on the interest developed. In this basic level course that spans for a duration of 16 weeks, the student would learn the following topics: 1.Body Alignment 2. Adavus (basic dance units) 3. Bhedas (Theory & practical) 4. Hasta Mudras. My teaching philosophy is to make the student be able to understand Bharatanatyam as a vocabulary. I would not only be teaching dance steps but also creating body awareness, developing coordination between the different limbs, enabling the student to gain confidence, improving body posture and develop an integration of the body and mind. On the completion of the course, the student would have a clear understanding of the basics of the Nritta aspect of Bharatanatyam, the alignment of the body, a sense of rhythm, and a definite sense of confidence. The student would then be in a position to decide if he or she would like to move further in their journey with this beautiful art form!
