About Peter
I entered university in the UK in 1994 with every intention of graduating and getting a regular job. 31 years later I finally left university as an Associate Professor of Neuropsychiatry (Behavioural Sciences) at the University of Medicine & Health Sciences, based in New York City. Now in retirement I'd like to help struggling students on a part-time temporary basis. I have taught 12,000+ undergrads and postgrads in Canada (12 yrs), Turkey (2yrs), and U.S. students (11yrs), as well as Open University student mentoring in the UK. I have numerous departmental teaching awards, as well as university awards for teaching excellence. I was honoured to win the Canadian Psychological Association's best Ph.D. thesis of the year award. Until recently I served as an Executive Chief Proctor for the United States Medical Licensing Examination board.

I provide a half hour free consultation to see whether we're compatible and to find out the exact nature of your problem. My preferred teaching style is Socratic. Instead of simply providing you with answers, I will help you discover and understand concepts, their applications, as well as alternative viewpoints. This way you gain expertise which you can use later in future essay writing and written examinations and not just the task you have on hand. I have taught large (500+ students) in didactic classes down to one-on-one tutorials. If you prefer, we can use problem-based learning or enquiry-based learning techniques. If your problem is procedural (e.g., how to run a stats procedure and interpret the results) then we could employ a see-one/do-one approach. I can also help you with manuscript preparation and proofing. My specialisms are cognition, research methodology and statistics (SPSS, SYSTAT, JASP, & SAS), clinical & medical neuropsychiatry and neuropharmacology, as well as topics in general undergraduate psychology (e.g., introductory, child and adult development, and social psychology).
