As a young teacher, my abilities are not limited to relaying sound fundamental piano technique but also to retain interest and enthusiasm.

From a very young age, music has always been Derek's passion. He was given the opportunity to choose Music 2 at Knox Grammar school and consequently achieved Band 6, placing him in the NSW honour roll. He has also placed in many local competitions including:
- Winner of “Moonlight Piano Festival” for two consecutive years
- Winner of “Under 16 Years Piano Competition” held in Sydney Conservatorium
- 3rd Place of “Under 15 Years Piano Competition” held in Sydney Conservatorium
- Also holds AmusA in piano performance
