About Huizi
Dr. Huizi Wang is a dedicated percussionist and pianist with a Doctorate in Percussion from McGill University. With extensive experience as an instructor, Huizi specializes in teaching percussion, drum set, and piano to students of all levels. Huizi Wang’s Unique Percussion & Drum Set Teaching Methodology
Drumming is more than just keeping time—it's about control, creativity, and connection to rhythm. My teaching method focuses on developing a strong technical foundation while encouraging musical expression and fluid movement. With years of experience as both a performer and educator, I incorporate Tai Chi Chuan-based body awareness techniques to help students play with ease, power, and precision. This approach minimizes tension, improves endurance, and allows for greater speed and agility without unnecessary strain. Whether you want to master the drum set, orchestral percussion, or hand percussion, my lessons will provide the skills and confidence to excel in any musical setting.
What to Expect in a Typical Lesson Each lesson is tailored to the student's level and goals, but a typical session includes:
Warm-up & Technique Development – Exercises to improve stick control, hand speed, foot independence, and dynamic range.
Groove & Timing Training – Mastering different styles (rock, jazz, funk, Latin, classical) with a focus on locking into the beat and developing solid timekeeping.
Coordination & Independence – Step-by-step drills to train hands and feet separately before bringing everything together for seamless drumming.
