About Angela
I am currently a freelance teacher working in many different settings. I have 3 years' experience offering Saturday school tuition involving small groups and 1:1 tuition here in the UK. I have also tutored secondary pupils in the past when I was in Canada as I'm a Canadian-trained teacher who has moved here since 2004. Not only have I worked in the primary and secondary settings as a class teacher, my last permanent post was a SENCO position at a primary school which involved working in partnership with behavioural units in inner-city London schools. I have experience working with children with learning difficulties, hearing impairment and autism. In addition, I have designed school curriculum teaching newly arrived pupils to the UK. My experience is extensive as I have a good knowledge of working with pupils from age 2 to age 18. I have high expectations for all children. I believe a commitment to high standards, partnered with resilience, is the foundation needed to aspire for excellence.

The purpose of my lessons is to close the gaps in learning. To unpick the misconceptions and address the missing links so that pupils can feel confident in the subjects. It is very important to make learning fun and meaningful to every individual. My lessons are highly personalised, tailored to the individual or groups' needs. It may involve some enquiry and games, but generally, there will be a lot of direct instruction during our time together. I use visuals and diagrams with detailed step-by-step explanation both in speech and writing, and physical artefacts such as using manipulatives whenever appropriate. I also believe that it is important to use assessments for learning throughout the session to check the understanding of the pupil and maintain some flexibility within the lessons to address the misconceptions as they arise.

I had the privilege of working with Angela for many years when we were school teachers together. Angela then took on the role of managing the instruction of children who had English as an additional language. I was always very impressed by her methodical approach to ensure that instruction was sequential and met the needs of pupils. Similarly, she was an advocate for children, as she communicated with other teachers about what they needed to do to meet needs. Any students working with Angela would be fortunate to be under her tutelage. She sets high goals and supports her students to meet them.

Details
First session is free (45mins): Discussion with you to find out the subject(s) and areas in which you want tutoring. Address any concerns from parent(s)/pupil(s). £55/hr: one to one, 1 hour actual lesson time, some materials may be provided by me but mainly by the student, 30 minutes preparation time I use at home to design your personalised lesson. No additional cost for travel within 2 miles.
(Travel cost will be added to your invoice should you live beyond)
(option to add another student in same session, £30/hr per student if being tutored in same subject and topic. Small group session can also be arranged. Pupils in this session will be tutored on the same subject at the same time. They can be of different levels as I can differentiate according to individual needs.
Cancellation Policy: Should either party need to cancel, a minimum notice of 3 hours prior should be given to the other party. There will be NO refund for any missed tutoring sessions should cancellation be made with less than 3 hours' notice. Any sessions cancelled by the tutor with less than 3 hours' notice will be given free of charge.
