About Jayati

Hi, I’m Jayati, and I’ve always been passionate about reading, writing, and teaching English. Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach students from different parts of the world, including the UK, US, Russia, Lithuania, and India.

Interestingly, my journey as a teacher began long before I realized it. When I was five years old, I used to role-play as a teacher. I never imagined that something I did as a child for fun would eventually become my profession.

One of the most beautiful things about being a teacher is understanding the impact of the profession. Teachers don’t simply teach subjects; they help build the people who go on to become doctors, engineers, writers, entrepreneurs, and so much more.

As a student, I often found learning in school uninteresting, which made me question: *How can I make learning more engaging for my students?* That question has shaped the way I teach. I believe students should not feel stultified or bored during a lesson. Instead, learning should involve curiosity, interaction, creativity, and plenty of opportunities to have fun.

My teaching philosophy is simple: "learning becomes meaningful when students are engaged, connected, and having fun." I use games, activities, discussions, storytelling, and real-life connections to make English more enjoyable and memorable.

For me, teaching is not just about teaching English—it’s about helping students discover that learning itself can be something they genuinely enjoy.

Public Speaking & Communication

I help students become confident, articulate speakers by teaching them how to organise their thoughts, express opinions, engage an audience, and speak with clarity and purpose.

Public-speaking sessions include:

Speech writing and delivery
Storytelling and narrative speaking
Debates and persuasive speaking
Rants and opinion-based speaking
Extempore and impromptu speaking
Presentation skills
Voice modulation, tone, pace, and volume
Body language, eye contact, and audience engagement
Building arguments and presenting counterarguments
Thinking on the spot and answering questions confidently
Using humour, anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and impactful language

Through debates, role-plays, storytelling challenges, speeches, discussions, and impromptu activities, students learn not only what to say, but how to say it effectively.

Creative Writing

Creative writing allows students to explore their imagination while developing their own voice and command over language. I work on:

Story writing, plot development, and characterisation
Setting, atmosphere, conflict, and suspense
Dialogue writing and narrative voice
Descriptive and imaginative writing
Show, don’t tell
Different points of view and perspectives
Poetry and creative expression
Picture-based and prompt-based writing
Alternative endings and creative storytelling
Journaling and reflective writing

A strong focus is placed on figurative and descriptive language, including similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, imagery, symbolism, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. I also introduce students to satire, irony, humour, and persuasive writing, helping them understand how language can entertain, influence, and make readers think.

Alongside creative writing, I cover letter writing, email writing, opinion writing, and other practical forms of communication, with emphasis on tone, structure, vocabulary, editing, and proofreading.

Vocabulary & Pronunciation

I give particular attention to vocabulary because a strong vocabulary helps students communicate with greater precision, fluency, and confidence. We work on synonyms, antonyms, word families, idioms, phrasal verbs, collocations, contextual vocabulary, and commonly confused words.

I also address common spelling and pronunciation errors, including syllable stress, word stress, intonation, articulation, and words that are frequently mispronounced.
