About Rachel
I have gained substantial teaching experience over the past 3 years. I have taught students from aged 5-21, in both one-to-one settings and in large groups of up to 40 at a time. September 2020- February 2021: Associated teacher programme at Lancaster University. This course will provide me with the qualification of 'Associate fellow of the higher education association'. 2020 Michaelmas term, Lancaster University: Teaching workshops for a third-year module: Coral reef ecology. (Paid position) 2019/2020 academic year: Demonstrator for two modules at Lancaster University, supporting module convenor in workshops and seminars. (Paid position) July-August 2019: Dissertation supervisor for the 'Operation Wallacea' field season in Indonesia. I supported seven undergraduate dissertation students as they collected data for their final year dissertations. July-August 2018: Reef Ecology Lecturer for 'Operation Wallacea' in Honduras. I ran a reef ecology course for over 200 students over an 8-week period. The course consisted of a lecture series, and in-water diving practicals, as well as an exam. July 2017: Taught a workshop for a summer school at the Cayman Islands Department of Environment, during my time as an MSc student collecting data for my thesis. I also have substantial experience speaking at academic conferences, and I have been invited to speak in high schools and universities across the country.

The goal of my teaching is to allow students to learn in an engaging, interactive manner! Whether you are looking for a one-off session for help on a specific piece of work, or a longer-term tutor to help you complete a course/module/exam etc, I am here to help! I take a synchronous approach to teaching, engaging with a tutee in person (or virtually at the moment) but I will also provide asynchronous learning resources for students between sessions. All my tutor sessions will involve activities to enhance learning, and the opportunity for students to ask questions and raise particular areas in which they are struggling, to ensure that the learning experience is driven by each student's individual academic needs.
