I focus more on openness and ease. The first important thing for me is to close the speaking barrier. Once you stop being afraid to speak, you won't find learning a language difficult. I also focus on pronunciation and proper intonation. I first have a little chat, the introduce a few words, then make my student act a role: a shop assistant, a customer and others....
