About Maya

I am a graduate of National School of Arts in Bulgaria where besides playing the piano for 10 years I studied singing, chamber music, accompaniment, choir, music theory, harmony, polyphony, solfeggio, instrumental knowledge, elements of music as well as piano methodology. I started tutoring in England in 2021 and since then that has been my only full-time job and commitment. For me engaging with the students and understanding their dreams and personality is as important as everything else. I love to be part of the journey of their personal and professional development.

My approach changes depending on the age of the person in front of me, what they are aiming for and most importantly, what their personality is like. The classes are fun and engaging rather than serious and pressured. It is very easy to start finding playing the piano boring if you don't learn to have fun with it and I want to save that element of excitement and interest with which every person starts to the very end. NOTE: I teach ONLY from my home at IG8 or online. I am unable to travel to people's homes due to the amount of students I have.

Find out more about Maya

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

When I was 8 years old my mum and I visited a friend of hers who had a piano and she taught me to play a few simple songs. I loved it and my mum made sure I could make it a part of my life! :)
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

As everybody else (I assume) I like to listen to different styles of music. When it comes to classical music, I love listening to and playing Haydn, Bach and Chopin. I find that they represent my inner thoughts and feelings best. Apart from classical music I listen to pop and especially rock music. My favourite band is AC/DC.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

It entirely depends on the student! I like finding a different approach for everyone and I believe that this always helps to make seemingly difficult things easy.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I wouldn't be able to say. Instruments, like people, are completely unique which makes it difficult to compare either one. The personality of the person learning is always of huge importance, as it really depends on what they find difficult/easy, what they enjoy and what not so much and what they want to learn.
  • What are your keys to success?

Firstly, you need to find where you want to be in life and once that's clear you need to keep reminding yourself why. Those two things, if strong enough, will equip you with everything necessary for the journey - motivation, consistency, dedication, positivity and hard work.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would be interested in seeing Brian Johnson outside performance or work enviroment since he is one of the people I love listening to on repeat and always looks full of energy. I don't think that I would be interested in meeting certain composer in a bar, mainly because I have difficulty imagining Chopin having a beer haha, but also I think that classical music is more intimate and personal experience and it seems magical how this intimacy can travel through time and reach us. So, I want to keep it this way. Just Brian Johnson, please! :)
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I can't really pick one thing that stands out. Music school in my experience was very fun and stressful environment at the same time, but I think that the shared stress before practical exams among us, would always be remembered!
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I think I always manage to adjust to the person in front of me and establish a unique connection with them. I am always interested in the growth and development of my students in general, not only when it comes to piano, and tutoring makes me happy! I think the latter is probably the most important thing because the best results happen with shared enthusiasm from both sides.
