About John
I am a current student of Physics at University of Nottingham, with a particular skill in Mathematics. In particular I left A-Levels with an A* in Maths and B in Further maths as one of the top students in the school, and had been studying A-Level Maths since year 10. I have a great passion for teaching that I will be taking further after my degree.
Although I have little experience working as a tutor, everyone has to start somewhere, and I believe I have the talent and experience to make a difference to people of all ages struggling with Maths and Physics. Over the years I have helped many friends and family members notably improve their performance at school, ranging from KS3 to A-Level.
I do have practical experience as a support teacher in Science and Maths from working at my old school this past year when I wasn't at university, so I'm even more familiar with modern education than just my age suggests.
What people most comment on is my ability to find a way to explain a concept which they are struggling to grasp in a new way which makes sense for them- I don't believe there is any one explanation which can be 100% effective for everyone, and that the individual personality should always be considered.
I am also well suited to aid students who may struggle in larger classes due to social or learning disabilities such as Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD, or OCD, as I have all 3 myself and understand the struggles involved in a way that it can sometimes be difficult for a student to express.

My personal style is highly individual- I like to first discuss the subject broadly with a person to understand how they feel, and gain an understanding in my own terms of their confidence in different ways of thinking. From there some people may prefer a regular structure, with an expected workload and possibly homework to reinforce methodology; but another might better benefit from a more fluid plan, having explanations of topics they were confused by week to week and able to go on tangents when a new problem presents itself. Some people might benefit most from working through direct examples together on paper, whilst some may find it better to physically move around whilst thinking about concepts as we talk.
Whilst I consider myself capable of teaching concepts up to and including A-level in Maths and Physics, due to the recent changes to the education system I am more comfortable with exam prep at GCSE and below, which I am more familiar with. I am happy teaching people of all levels- from high achievers looking to better grasp topics their teachers don't have time for in class, to those struggling with the core concepts needed for their progression.

I worked with John on a number of projects and he is someone who is always more than willing to explain problems to others. With his background in maths and physics, he would make an expert and reliable tutor.
John is a passionate tutor with a great knowledge about Maths and Physics. He has a keen eye for detail, is friendly and approachable, and can explain ideas in a clear way. I would definitely recommend him for help in all areas of secondary education.
John is a brilliant tutor! He has helped me grasp concepts which I was struggling with and explained them in a clear and interesting manner. Always patient and polite and extremely knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!
Not only is John highly skilled in both maths and physics, but he also has a great love of teaching. He tutored me before my GCSE Physics mock in June, in which I ended up with an 8 (A*). He is an all round friendly, helpful, and intelligent person, and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
John is a well knowledgeable intellect, with a profound understanding of mathematics in all ranges of complexity. I have studied side by side with John in Sir Christopher Hatton Academy and found myself resolving difficult questions with his aid. It is well within my belief that passion and the ability to patiently convey knowledge to another individual are qualities that a tutor must have; John possesses both qualities.
John is a highly knowledgeable person and knows a variety of ways to explain things so everyone can understand. Very patient and would answer any problem thrown at him.
Very patient and extremely passionate about the subject. An ideal tutor!
GCSE's for me were a doddle as my mind works mechanically which is why I chose A Level Maths. This was a mistake until I met John. I was really struggling with the jump and felt as though the teaching at school was not filling this gap. This is the first thing John noticed and rectified. We then built up my knowledge in various manners - written exercises, visual ones and research. Every week he would ask me to go away and explore an area that I didn't understand purely factually and then we would come together for 2 hours every Wednesday night to get down to the nitty gritty parts of that area of Maths. I am pleased to say that I smashed the A Level, coming out with 93%, an A* and way more confidence. John taught me other ways to approach not just Maths difficulties, but other problems that I may face. I learnt so much from his teaching and hope that other people will too. He made me realise that hard work... works.
John’s deep understanding and interest in the subject make him a perfect tutor. Very patient and will answer any questions. Is attentative and comfortable to be around, would definitely recommend !
