About Ridwan
I'm Ridwan, a Physics graduate from Queen Mary University of London, currently training as a secondary Mathematics teacher through Teach First's PGCE programme. I have strong subject depth across Mathematics and Physics, from GCSE through to A-Level and Further Mathematics, including multivariate calculus, linear algebra and statistics.
I've delivered over 700 hours of tutoring in Mathematics, Biology and Physics, helping students prepare for SATs, 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level exams, with an average improvement of 2.5 grades. I also co-authored a research paper on public engagement with science, currently under review for publication, which involved building a data pipeline and applying machine learning to analyse thousands of online comments.
I hold Safeguarding & Child Protection and Health & Safety in Education certificates, and I take a structured, patient approach to teaching, focused on building genuine understanding rather than rote memorisation.

My approach to tutoring
I build every lesson around where a student is actually stuck, not a generic syllabus run-through. I start by checking understanding with quick questions, then adapt on the spot, slowing down, using a different method or analogy, or moving faster if a concept has clicked. I track progress across sessions so we're always closing specific gaps rather than repeating what's already secure. This comes from experience adapting lessons for mixed-ability and SEND pupils, and from delivering structured, exam-focused Physics and Maths lessons to large groups as well as one-to-one.
Lesson length
Sessions typically run for 1 hour, which is enough time to review previous work, tackle new material, and finish with practice questions, though I'm flexible on length depending on the topic and the student's age.
My qualifications and experience
I hold a BSc in Physics from Queen Mary University of London, and I'm currently training as a secondary Maths teacher through Teach First's PGCE programme. I've delivered 700+ hours of tutoring in Mathematics, Biology and Physics, helping students improve by an average of 2.5 grades, and I hold Safeguarding & Child Protection and Health & Safety in Education certificates.
