I base my teaching on a lot of different exercises and tests for better knowledge, with access to PowerPoint to explain the theory, examples and then practise more and more worksheets. I have the right tools for teaching online, such as a digital table.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in Physics and Chemistry began during my own school days when I was fascinated by how the world around us could be explained through science. The logical reasoning in physics and the transformative nature of chemistry intrigued me. As I pursued my studies further, I realized that many students found these subjects intimidating, and I wanted to change that. This led me to teaching, where I have spent the past 15 years making science more approachable and engaging for secondary-level students.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Physics and Chemistry at the secondary level, covering a wide range of topics, from Newton's laws and electromagnetism to chemical reactions and thermodynamics. I particularly enjoy teaching real-life applications of physics (such as how electricity powers our homes) and exciting chemistry experiments that bring concepts to life. Some students struggle with abstract concepts like quantum mechanics or organic chemistry, but I always find ways to simplify them with relatable examples and interactive methods.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes! I had a Physics teacher who had an incredible way of explaining even the most complex topics in a simple and engaging manner. He always encouraged curiosity and made learning fun with hands-on experiments. His passion for teaching inspired me to adopt a similar approach-one that fosters understanding rather than rote memorization.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    A good tutor needs:
Patience - Every student learns at a different pace.

Clarity - Science can be complex, so explanations should be simple and relatable.

Adaptability - Adjusting teaching methods to match each student's learning style.

Passion for Teaching - Enthusiasm is contagious! When a tutor is excited about a subject, students are more likely to engage with it.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once had a student who was struggling with electric circuits and was convinced he would never understand physics. Instead of using just formulas, I related the topic to his love for video games-comparing circuits to how power flows in a gaming console. Suddenly, everything clicked for him! He ended up excelling in the subject and even pursued engineering. Moments like these remind me why I love teaching.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges is helping students overcome their fear of Physics and Chemistry. Many students come to believe that science is too difficult or boring. Another challenge is keeping up with new advancements and teaching methods, as science is always evolving. I tackle these challenges by making lessons interactive, using real-world examples, and incorporating technology to make learning engaging.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is making science accessible and enjoyable for all students. I love using experiments, analogies, and storytelling to make concepts easier to grasp. Beyond teaching, I also enjoy staying updated with scientific discoveries and innovations, as well as exploring ways to integrate them into my lessons.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

With 15 years of experience, I bring a deep understanding of Physics and Chemistry, a student-centered approach, and a passion for simplifying complex topics. I believe in making learning fun, interactive, and relatable, ensuring that students not only understand the subject but also develop a curiosity for science. My goal is to help students build confidence and achieve their academic goals, making me a true Superprof!
