About Joe
In June 2025 I completed a Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the University of Exeter, with a strong track record of published research on quantum thermodynamics. I hold a first-class MSci in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Bristol, and attained top grades at my state comprehensive school with A-levels in Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A*) and Physics (A*). At GCSE I got nine A*s and two As. Alongside my doctorate I have worked for the university as a maths tutor, leading small-group classes for undergraduates in physics and engineering. I was nominated for the Supervisor of the Year award with the following commendation from a student: "Joe's pace of teaching and inclusive vocabulary are the reason I look forward to the class, even when they were at 8:30am last term! He is caring and always asks us which topics or problems we would most like to go over, giving him a highly interactive teaching style and making him very approachable, allowing me to progress easily through my struggles with the module, and reach a potential I didn't know I had. He takes time marking the class's homework, leaving individual and personalised feedback wherever necessary, making it clear and easy to see where we can improve. My grades have improved, which I believe can be credited almost completely to Joe."

Lessons are highly tailored to the student's individual needs and abilities. I engage with the student to understand the topics they need help with, and plan classes to make the best use of their time. This usually involves working together through a small number of challenging exam-style questions to build the confidence, technique and fluency they need to ace the real thing!
