About Dick
I work as a life coach who treats thinking as a practical craft. My background combines formal study in philosophy and anthropology with lived experience of instability, reinvention, and starting over from uncomfortable places. I studied philosophy at the University of Toronto and hold a BSc in Anthropology from the University of Calgary, and I use that training in real time with clients: to name patterns clearly, challenge unhelpful assumptions, and build workable paths forward. In sessions, I bring a calm, precise, and non-dramatic style. I listen closely, map what you are saying against philosophical tools, and help you translate insight into specific actions you can test in your actual life. I care about clarity, dignity, and agency: you set the direction, and I help you think in a way that respects your intelligence and your reality. I am a good fit for people who think a lot, feel deeply, and want more than generic advice. If you value honesty, rigorous reflection, and concrete next steps, we will work well together.

My lessons use philosophy as a working toolkit. Each session treats your life as the “text” and your obstacles as problems to be understood with precision, then addressed with concrete action.
In our work together, you can expect:
Clearer thinking:
We slow your thoughts down, examine assumptions, and separate signal from noise. You learn to spot hidden beliefs that keep you stuck and replace them with more accurate, useful ones.
Values-based direction:
We identify what actually matters to you—your core values, standards, and non-negotiables—so choices stop feeling random or guilt-ridden and start lining up with a coherent inner compass.
Better decisions under pressure:
We borrow tools from philosophy—Socratic questioning, thought experiments, ethical frameworks—to stress-test your options and choose in ways you respect the morning after.
Practical strategies, not just insight:
Every session ends with small, specific experiments: conversations to have, boundaries to try, habits to test. Insight turns into movement.
A respectful, collaborative space:
I treat you as the expert on your own life. My role is to ask sharp questions, bring in useful concepts, and help you see patterns you cannot easily see from the inside.
Over time, these lessons train a different kind of reflex: instead of spiraling or freezing when a problem appears, you pause, name it clearly, understand its structure, and respond from a place of agency. Philosophical coaching becomes a skill you carry into the rest of your life.

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Dick is deeply knowledgeable in both the theoretical and practical analysis of philosophy. He is able to explain ideas both on various different levels and makes it simple to use various philosophical tools to understand and evaluate current systems and relationships.
Dick is an exceptional philosophy tutor. He masterfully unpacks tough concepts—like Descartes’ cogito, Aristotle’s golden mean, and Heidegger’s Dasein—into clear, engaging insights, guiding you to real “aha!” moments with patience and enthusiasm. Reliable, flexible, and always extra-helpful with resources.
I've had to pleasure of knowing Dick for about a decade and he is one of the sharpest people i ever had the pleasure to call a friend. Eventhough I've never been a student of his, I and basically anyone that knows him, will easily recognize his talent for teaching. He fosters a true intellectual curiosity, especially in topics that he really cares about.
A great teacher and mentor; taught me so much, would highly recommend!
Dick has been through a fair bit of "life experience," and I've found his explanations on various anecdotes, events, situations, and other similar items - to be intriguing (to say the least). He conducts his explanations and dialogue in a way that is beyond the standard - meaning in a way that you want to get involved in the conversation. I have found him to be welcoming, engaging, and overall pleasant to converse with. More so, conversations that I have had with him have felt that they would be kept confidential; this is something that is important to me. I would have to say that Dick is one of a rare breed.
So I’ve seen him a couple times giving advice to a few people and I think based on what I heard, she’s a big hearted very centered and helpful teacher with great advice. As far as I could tell seems like he could be a positive asset to any working conditions, guarantee, he would be a great addition to your community I guarantee he will be a great addition to the community
I’ve known Dick for several years, both as a teacher and as someone who truly lives the ideas he shares. He has a rare ability to take complex concepts and make them feel personal and relevant without ever watering them down. His teaching style is calm, patient, and grounded in real curiosity. He listens carefully, and when he responds, it’s always thoughtful and sincere.
One of my favorite memories was a long conversation we had about meaning and responsibility. Instead of giving me a quick answer, he helped me work through my own thoughts and find clarity on my own terms. That’s what makes him special. He doesn’t just teach philosophy; he helps you understand yourself through it.
I recommend Dick to anyone looking for a teacher who is intelligent, kind, and authentic. He has a genuine gift for guiding people toward deeper thinking and honest reflection.Been taught many of things by Mr. Dick. He is a teacher under so many things. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. If anyone is needing any caught up on any kind of info this would be the person to go too.
