About Tyler
I'm a doctoral student in Geography at Temple University with a Master's in Public Health from Drexel. I've taught GIS and spatial statistics at the university level and have published peer-reviewed research on air pollution, food insecurity, and neighborhood health.
I've been a teaching assistant and instructor of record for courses like Fundamentals of GIS, Spatial Statistics, Digital Mapping, and Intro to Community Health. I've spent a lot of my PhD tutoring students one-on-one and absolutely love it.
I tutor both online and in-person in Philly. I have a lot of experience working through screen sharing and in-person and love doing both! I'm just working on writing my dissertation proposal this summer, so I have a ton of flexible time to spend helping with your learning goals. My sweet spot in lessons is patiently walking students through the technical problems so they can keep learning. My areas of expertise include GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS, web mapping), biostatistics, epidemiology, and data analysis in R. If you're stuck on a spatial analysis project, struggling with regression models, or prepping for an epi exam, I can help you get un-stuck efficiently.
My approach is to meet you where you are whether that's totally frustrated with the class or excited but feeling stuck, I can help break down the coursework so you aren't left wanting to throw your laptop out the window. I met Tyler because he was a designated tutor for my spatial statistics course. I truly appreciated how (very) patient he was throughout the semester, repeatedly explaining core concepts and explaining them in different ways to help further my understanding. Throughout the semester that he was the tutor, he was flexible about meeting times and overall pleasant to learn from. Additionally, while I saw him regularly for tutoring, many other classmates did as well because we all liked and appreciated him.
Tyler my GOAT is the only reason I was able to pass my Spatial Statistics class. Unlike the professor, Tyler knew we had never used the R programing language before and had little experience with stats, so he met us where we were at. He helped me with all of my labs and I wouldn't have been able to complete them without his help. He also helped me with my GIS class on the rare occasion I hit a roadblock. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone learning the R programming language, doing statistical analysis or learning GIS
