About Jacob
I am an experienced online Politics tutor with an MSc in International Politics and a BA in Politics with Philosophy, alongside a PhD in Sociology.
My academic and professional background has involved politics, public policy, inequality, education, race and social change, so I bring both academic knowledge and real-world policy experience into lessons.
I currently teach Politics and other social-science subjects to students in the UK and internationally, particularly at A-Level. Earlier in my career, I also taught Politics in secondary and sixth-form settings and lectured in higher education.
I particularly enjoy helping students who know the content but find it difficult to build a convincing argument. My teaching is discussion-based and questioning-led, and I encourage students to examine competing viewpoints, test evidence and develop their own reasoned conclusions.
My aim is to make Politics easier to understand while helping students become more confident, analytical and independent.

My Politics lessons focus on helping students understand the subject clearly and then turn that understanding into strong analytical answers.
At A-Level, I cover UK Politics and Government, political ideologies, US Politics and comparative politics. Lessons can focus on content, source questions, essay planning, evaluation or timed exam practice, depending on what the student needs most.
I use questioning throughout lessons to test understanding and develop argument. Rather than memorising lists of points, students learn how to explain why something matters, compare different interpretations, use evidence and reach a reasoned judgement.
We regularly work with past-paper questions, assessment objectives, mark schemes and model answers so students understand how stronger responses are constructed.
For university students, I can also support political theory, comparative politics, international politics, essay planning, critical analysis and academic writing.
Lessons are normally one hour and are tailored to the student’s course, level and goals.
