About Sumesh
Hello! I'm a passionate and dedicated educator with over 10 years of experience in teaching and academic research in the field of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences. I hold a PhD in Plant Virology from the University of Greenwich, UK, and currently work at the University of York in the Department of Biology. My academic journey began in India, where I worked as an Assistant Professor for five years in the Biotechnology Department at the University of Agricultural Sciences. During that time, I taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervised research projects. My role allowed me to guide students not just academically, but also in developing strong research and analytical skills. During my PhD in the UK, I also gained experience teaching Master's-level students in Biology. This international exposure, combined with my strong academic foundation, has equipped me with a deep understanding of diverse curricula and student needs. What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to break down complex biological concepts into clear, manageable parts, and my genuine commitment to student success. I approach each lesson with professionalism, patience, and adaptability, ensuring that every student feels supported and confident in their learning. About My Teaching Approach As a passionate educator and researcher in the biological sciences, I bring over a decade of combined teaching and research experience to my tutoring sessions. My approach is student-centred, tailored to individual learning styles, and designed to build deep conceptual understanding alongside academic success. Teaching Methodology I use a combination of interactive discussions, visual aids, real-world examples, and problem-solving exercises to make complex biological concepts easier to understand. I believe in building strong foundations and encouraging critical thinking. My sessions often include: Structured yet flexible lesson plans Concept mapping and diagrams for better retention Q&A sessions to clear doubts instantly Guidance on exam preparation and scientific writing I also draw from current research and practical applications to make the lessons more engaging and relevant. Lesson Duration Typical lessons are 60 minutes long, with the option to extend to 90 minutes depending on the student’s needs and topic complexity. I also offer assignment/project guidance and exam revision sessions.
