About Hao

Hi, I am Hao.

I am a PhD candidate in Human-Computer Interaction at Swinburne University of Technology. In my PhD, I design and build interactive exercise technology for older adults, including touchscreen activities in Unity. I have published nine peer-reviewed papers at OzCHI, IEEE, ACM and other venues.

I have taught at Monash University and at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, I taught Python to 180 undergraduates and game design to 35 undergraduates. I designed and graded course assessments. I received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the university.

At Xiamen University, I earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Digital Media Art and a Master of Engineering in Digital Media Technology. In these degrees, I learnt programming and interaction design. I was named an Excellent Graduate for both degrees. I then worked as a software engineer and team leader at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where I built software to control robotic arms. After that, I completed a Master of Philosophy in Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

I tutor a TAFE student in game development one-on-one. I adapt each lesson to the student's pace and learning style. I hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check. I teach in English and Mandarin.

I help you reach your own programming goals and write code with confidence.

Maybe you are taking a programming unit at university or TAFE. Maybe you are preparing for VCE Software Development or Algorithmics, or learning to code from scratch. We start from where you are and what you need.

Each lesson is 60 minutes. I explain one concept at a time. We work through examples together with live coding. Then you practise solving problems on your own.

If you study programming at university or TAFE, I help you work through the concepts in your unit. We practise structuring, testing and debugging code together. For assessed tasks, I help you understand the requirements and practise the same skills on similar problems.

If you enjoy games, you can learn programming by making your own 2D and 3D games in Unity and C#. By the end of every lesson, you have something that you can play.

For VCE students, I plan structured practice around the VCE Software Development and Algorithmics study designs.

I teach online by default. I can also teach in person in Melbourne's inner east, with a parent at home for students under 18.
