About Chris
I am a piano instructor who has played piano for over 15 years. I've been teaching lessons since 2014. I was initially trained in classical piano, however I have preformed with various jazz and blues groups in the long island/NYC area, and have made keyboard samples for use by local hip-hop artists.
Playing piano is an incredibly rewarding skill, and I love being able to help students improve their skills. Whether you're in school, or an adult who has always wanted to learn how to play piano, I am very passionate about sharing this amazing hobby with anybody who wants to learn, and I can't wait to help you reach you goals!

I structure my teaching approach around students' goals, skill level, and learning styles. While some students enjoy and respond well to more
traditional classical instruction, I find that many students enjoy learning piano much more when having a say in type of music they want to learn. My teaching method focuses on teaching my students the skills and techniques they need to know in order to play the music that they want to play. Depending on my student's interests, I like to incorporate music from video games, movies, or popular music into our lessons. These can all be effective vehicles to teach piano technique while using material that keeps students interested and engaged.
While we work on larger pieces over the course of many weeks, I like to assign two small exercises each week, one to work on music theory knowledge, and another to work on piano technique. I do often change this method depending on my students' individual preferences, but I find that this method tends to be very successful in preparing new pianists for more advanced music.

Chris’s lessons are fun and I’ve learned so much in only 4 months!
I started taking lessons with Chris last year to help prep for a level 4 NYSSMA piece. He was really fun to work with, and was really enthusiastic about teaching. I ended up getting gold on NYSSMA, but I continued taking lessons because I feel like I got so much more out of it than just a good nyssma score
