About Idan
Since being in 4th grade, I've been tutoring students in math and science. While that first tutoring opportunity happened because my teacher did not know Chinese long multiplication and asked me to teach myself then her and the class, I sought out all future opportunities because it felt like a natural calling. Having 15 years of experience tutoring all age levels gives me empathy for a variety of students. Parents and students have praised me for my patience and deep understanding of the material that gets translated onto my students. Working at a crisis hotline and having a psychology background helps me create a calm, productive environment to combat any stress or frustration people face when they struggle with new material. Some people struggle with an external locus of control, but everyone has the ability to learn and conquer any subject if they have the right tutor. A history of many students with improved grades makes me believe I am that right tutor for you.

My tutoring style focusing on building off foundational knowledge and growing that level of understanding to solve problems. Despite the biochemistry background, I do not believe in memorization since it is short-term and too specific. Instead we use logic and mnemonics to create long-lasting knowledge that can be applied to more than the immediate lesson. My lesson plan always begins with creating rapport so students can feel comfortable sharing the insecurities or problems. Using my neuropsychology background, I understand that an overactive amygdala often makes students bad test takers when they are too stressed to recall or process information. These methods have resulted in all my students improving at least a full letter grade and retaining the information well past their tests.
