I found Paul through google search after a meeting with my supervisors, which left me anxious and scared. I knew what I needed to do but I had very little confidence in myself. After only one session with Paul, I regained my confidence, and I started progressing in my experiment and writing my disertation. Paul has a unique approach in teaching, I have never experienced such an effective way of learning before. He would explain the logic behind the methods and guide me through SPSS at the same time he would allow me to practice what we covered in the session. He was very patient and dedicated during the sessions and showed continuous interest and support till the end. After completion of the sessions, I find myself very confident with the quantitative methods, SPSS and preparing the data. I also scored the highest among my classmates.
Paul is a fantastic tutor. Really personable, and very knowledgeable about statistics for social sciences and SPSS. He helped me work out the most appropriate analyses for my research project and spent a lot of time with me walking through the analyses and ensuring I understood the meaning of what I was looking at, as well as what to look for. Highly recommend.
It's been my privilege to work alongside and in collaboration with Paul for the past five years. As a colleague in the sociology department where I work, he has been a source of inspiration and had led by example as someone who is deeply committed to his students - both in terms of their academic outcomes and their personal and professional development. Paul coordinated and taught (among other things) social research methods modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level and provided a wide range of students with one-to-one supervision, including supporting their independent dissertation projects. Paul is hugely knowledgeable in a range of social research methods, with a specialism in quantitative methods. As a qualitative researcher, I have been very fortunate to have Paul to turn to in this regard. He was a co-researcher on a recent funded research project, which combined qualitative and quantitative methods. Paul was exceptional in how he handled the process of 'translation' across the different approaches, and his ability to explain his statistical work to the qualitative members of the team was impressive. He has an excellent capacity for explaining complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand, without losing the complexity. He is level-headed, very calm under pressure, wonderful to work with, warm, thoughtful and supportive. I recommend him without reservation.
I highly recommend Paul Chappell, he is very approachable and friendly but more importantly he is extremely knowledgeable around SPSS and Stats offering the correct support tailored to each individual. I would not have graduated without him.
