English

Being in an English school my whole life showed me many ways English can be taught and how to learn it effectively. I believe that everyone understands and absorbs information in different ways, which is why I highly customise my class plans according to the needs and learning style of each student. This is so that they can directly improve on the places that they truly need.

In my class, I use a wide range of learning materials so that my students are entertained. This ensures the learning materials are not repetitive. I incorporate reading, listening and viewing in my classes to help my students improve. For example, I use slides, videos and visual aids in my classes.

My class focuses on improving my students' speaking and writing skills as well as the techniques to answer exam questions.

This class is open to all students who want to improve their English speaking, reading and writing skills. Students of any age are welcome to join my class. Hope to see you soon!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Interest Development in English and Tutoring
My fascination with the English language and literature began in my early teens. I was an avid reader, delving into a variety of genres, which not only expanded my vocabulary but also my understanding of different cultures and perspectives. My interest in private tutoring emerged during my late high school years when I volunteered to help peers struggling with English. The joy and fulfillment I felt when a concept clicked for someone else ignited my passion for teaching.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

    Subjects and Topics of Interest
My early struggles with English have taught me an invaluable lesson: with determination and the right support, anyone can overcome their challenges. This experience is at the heart of my teaching philosophy. I understand firsthand the frustrations that come with learning something difficult. That's why I'm committed to providing personalized support and encouragement to each of my students. I strive to create an environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. My journey from struggle to proficiency in English inspires me to help my students find their own path to success, showing them that perseverance pays off.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

    Role Models and Inspiration
I was fortunate to have an English teacher in high school who profoundly impacted my approach to teaching. She taught with such passion and depth, making every lesson an adventure. Her ability to connect with students, her enthusiasm for the subject, and her encouragement for us to think critically and express our own interpretations were truly inspiring. She showed me the transformative power of a dedicated teacher.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    Qualities of a Good Tutor
Patience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of the subject matter are essential. A good tutor must also be empathetic, able to connect with students on a personal level to understand their challenges and motivations. Communication skills are crucial-not just the ability to explain concepts clearly but also to listen actively. Lastly, a passion for teaching and a genuine interest in helping students grow are what differentiate a good tutor from a great one.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

    Anecdote Related to English
One memorable moment was during a session with a student who struggled to grasp the concept of metaphorical language. We decided to take a walk outside, observing our surroundings. As we described what we saw in metaphorical terms, the student's understanding clicked. They realized that metaphors were not just literary devices but a way to view the world through a different lens. This experience reminded me that sometimes, stepping out of the traditional learning environment can spark understanding in unexpected ways.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    Difficulties or Challenges
One challenge I face is addressing the varying levels of proficiency and interest among my students, especially those from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Crafting lessons that are engaging and beneficial for everyone requires creativity and flexibility. Additionally, helping students overcome their fear of making mistakes in speaking or writing in English is a continuous process. It's about building confidence as much as teaching the language.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    Particular Passion
My passion undoubtedly lies in teaching. It's the interaction with students, the process of breaking down complex ideas into understandable pieces, and the moments of breakthrough and understanding. However, within the subject of English, my passion is kindled by the power of stories and language to connect people across time and cultures. It's not just about grammar and vocabulary; it's about communication, expression, and understanding the human experience.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

    What Makes Me a Superprof
Beyond answering these interview questions with enthusiasm, what makes me a Superprof is my dedication to my students' growth and my continuous pursuit of improving my teaching methods. My experience teaching students from various backgrounds has equipped me with the ability to adapt and personalize my teaching approach. I'm committed to not just teaching English but fostering a supportive environment where students feel empowered to learn, make mistakes, and ultimately, achieve their language goals.
