About Rachel
Educational Background I graduated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto, CA in 2010 with a 4.2 weighted GPA. I currently attend Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA as a math and computer science double major with a 4.0 GPA. I plan to complete my bachelor's degrees and then earn a master's in teaching to become a high school math teacher. Test Scores and Academic Achievements I earned 5s on the AP Calculus BC, Physics C, and Biology exams and a perfect 800 on the SAT II Math Level II. Tutoring Experience and Results I also work as a private tutor, recently helping a high school algebra student go from below 47% to passing in under six weeks. I previously volunteered at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital from 2012 to 2013, tutoring students from 1st to 12th grade in math and science. Professional Training Since March 2024, I have been tutoring through Foothill College's Pass the Torch program, helping college students one-on-one in courses from precalculus to multivariable calculus. I have also completed two quarters of tutor training courses.

My Teaching Approach
I'm a passionate, outgoing, and experienced math tutor who genuinely loves helping students succeed, not just in grades and test scores, but also in their understanding and confidence. My goal is for students to become more independent and feel proud of their progress.
Teaching Methods and Techniques
One strategy I use is the Socratic Method, where I ask guiding questions that lead students to figure out a problem, which strengthens their problem-solving skills. When a student is still stuck, I use the "I do, we do, you do" method, where I walk through a similar problem, we try one together, and finally the student solves the original problem.
What Sets Me Apart
These approaches help students feel prepared for future challenges, not just the next test. Since March 2024, I have been tutoring through Foothill College's Pass the Torch program, helping college students one-on-one in courses from precalculus to multivariable calculus. I have also completed two quarters of formal tutor training courses.
Who My Lessons Are For
I've worked with a wide range of students, from those struggling with foundational math skills to A+ students lacking confidence in their answers or needing an extra challenge to stay engaged. I can tutor pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, differential equations, discrete mathematics, and more!
I mainly tutor over Zoom and have a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends. I also offer in-person tutoring near Palo Alto with COVID precautions.

Perfect! Rachel is awesome! She’s super patient with me and makes sure I fully understand concepts in detail. She also makes math fun by cracking some jokes!
- One of Christa's strengths is her dedication to understanding the material, not just memorizing equations. I love that she asked if she could bombard me with questions and I also love that she wanted to know the "why" about certain concepts (such as why tangent is undefined at pi/2). Some things for her to work on include converting between degrees and radians, and practicing calculating the value of sin/cos/tan/cot/sec/csc at angles other than 0 to 90 degrees (0 to pi/2 radians).Rachel's response :
