About Izunna

My passion to teach originates from my desire and ability to impact and share my knowledge with others in addition to the fulfilments of seeing students achieve high grades as a result of my lessons. I am confident that my background studies in electrical engineering coupled with my teaching experience and professional work experience proves me a suitable candidate for this position. I graduated with first class honours from University of East London United Kingdom. My undergraduate degree was devoted to the study of electrical and electronics engineering and had equipped me with diverse Engineering skills. During my undergraduate studies, I gained the opportunity to undertake various modules as regards to electrical and electronics engineering. some of which are Analogue Electronics and Digital Principles, Instrumentation and Control techniques, Advanced Engineering Mathematics (i&ii), Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, software Engineering and micro-processors, Digital Signal Processing, Engineering Science and applications , Analogue and digital circuit theory and project management. These are I believe are part of the core subjects needed in this role. During my undergraduate studies, I participated in a mentoring scheme organised by the University. This required a group of selected students to undertake a work placement role as teaching assistants in secondary schools. In this role, I assisted students in maths and sciences; however I significantly worked with a student that could communicate not fluently in English. Throughout the placement I worked intensively to improve his English communication skills as well as mathematics through computer aided assisted instruction, reading activities, and explicit phonics instructions. As I consider myself as a lifelong learner, I was constantly reflecting on my work with this student. I was constantly collecting feedback, reviewing his progress and devising possible ways of enhancing his learning experience. I used current research and information’s obtained from my colleagues at the school to determine how I could best help him and by the end of the scheme, his receptive, expressive language and mathematics skills were greatly improved. I had also completed my postgraduate studies on sustainable electrical power systems engineering at Brunel university and achieving merit. My post-graduate studies exposed me to the study of sustainable electrical power, utilisation of electrical energy and application of power electronics and high level mathematics. I believe the modules I covered in this programme would be beneficial and can be adopted in this role. I had further strengthened my ability to educate and impact knowledge to others through from my previous role as Laboratory research assistant at the university. I was involved in various research projects both for industrial and academic references. I assisted students during laboratory sessions, guiding to support learning of various software platforms during practical lessons and also providing corrections to errors in project designs. Through this I was able to share my engineering knowledge with learners and particularly in the field of analogue and electronic circuit and designs. I am currently studying for a Doctorate research degree on a project to develop a concentrated solar powered micro-gas turbine at City University London. This project has greatly enhanced my mathematical and programming skills. I relished the opportunity to teach undergraduate students in classroom tutorials on maths and other engineering sciences. I also voluntarily teach teens preparing for GCSE at my local church in maths and sciences. My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students to develop their own learning interest and critical thinking, establishing a learner-centred environment in the lesson room with a feedback process as a measure to track students’ progress. I look forward to working in a collaborative learning and teaching environment with students and to develop subjects incorporating innovative teaching techniques for a better learning process. Thank you.
