About Laura
Ever since I was little my dream was to become English teacher. I remember when I was between 9 and 12 and I used to play “school” with my little brother preparing him for my exams. Since then, I knew my vocation was teaching. Besides, I have always been intrigued by languages and their origins. My fascination for English came from my teachers, who have always been my role model inspiring me and pushing me to reach my full potential. Then, by the age of eighteen I decided to start teaching English as a private tutor for children and from the very beginning, I realized how passionate I was about teaching.
After finishing high school I was really looking forward to start my degree on English Studies in Madrid. During those five years I acquired a good knowledge of English language, such as the way to understand and analyze a writing, which is of key importance and can be applied in many other fields of work. In addition, on my fourth year, I was offered to do Erasmus in Paris having the occasion to improve not only my English at University with English native teachers, but also my French outside college. Studying abroad gave me another perspective of education, as each country has different techniques of teaching and additionally I could have an insight into a different culture while growing up as a person.
Finally, during the last year of my degree I studied “Spanish as a foreign language: methodology” and my interest became more focused, since we worked with different areas of linguistics. Besides, I achieved a high grade on my final year dissertation based on a critical analysis of an English textbook, which encouraged me to research about teaching techniques and become aware of the importance of showing real-life language to the students.
I am currently a teaching assistant in a primary school and a full-time Master student of Apllied Linguistics and Communication at Birkbeck University of London. If you need encouragement and motivation to learn English, Spanish or French then this is your opportunity!
