Oxford University Medical student. Personal Statement reviews, Interview tutoring and aptitude test tutoring to improve your University applications

It has been a pleasure to support this student. We have made great progress.

Salomè has been a highly receptive student with lots of ideas for her Masters application and her undergraduate research project, which I offered guidance for. I wish her the best with her future academic endeavours - I’m sure she will do very well.

I have been working with Januli on improving the quality and clarity of their personal statement. They have a lot of interesting experiences to work with and emphasis has been on increasing the proportion of the statement addressing clinical reflections from their work experiences. I also offered lots of character-saving rephrasing suggestions to ensure they had enough room to discuss all the great experiences they wanted to discuss.

Matt’s son has an impressive aptitude to the BMAT exam and in our sessions we have focused on refining approaches to the most challenging question types. We’ve been particularly working on comprehension and 3D spatial reasoning style questions and it is clear that Matt’s son is quickly improving. I have faith that if he maintains this trajectory, Matt’s son will be set up for success in his BMAT exam. Best wishes, Emma

Tutoring Ubaid at BMAT, it was clear he has a natural aptitude to the style of the exam, and he was very quick to link together difficult concepts. I was able to offer a new perspective on how to approach argument comprehension questions and spatial reasoning problems, which are notoriously challenging, for example, alongside other tips to add to his skill portfolio ahead of his exam.

Hana is a talented prospective medical applicant whom I tutor in BMAT. Her Personal Statement also displayed highly sophisticated reflections, and with some guidance to improve her fluency and ensure she has all the content needed, it is now a very advanced PS. She has a natural aptitude for BMAT, understanding many complex questions. We are currently focusing on improving her comprehension questions in Section 1 as these have appeared to be a slight weakness. Once I’ve helped her understand how to approach this Q type, I expect her S1 scores to become consistently increased, as this question type comes up multiple times per paper, and I hope it will become a source of valuable marks for her, especially since other candidates notoriously struggle with this Q type.

Yageen is a talented prospective medical student, with an impressive commitment to medicine, as seen by her multiple volunteering and work experiences. She had insightful reflections on this work, appearing wise beyond her years. I’m glad I was able to refine her statement successfully and I wish her all the best with her application.

Rashida is a prospective Oxford Medicine applicant and very capable, whom I’m tutoring in some of the more challenging question types in Section 1 and 2, alongside remote feedback on some of her practice Section 3 essays. I believe we are making good progress in the run up to her BMAT exam mid-October and I wish her every success with her application.

Eren is a prospective Oxford applicant and her highly intellectual personal statement effectively portrayed her passion for science, and highlighted areas in which she had developed expertise having read beyond the syllabus. I was able to offer new pieces of reading and rephrasing options to improve eloquence, improving the clarity of the statement and allowing further high-quality experiences to be included. I wish her the best of luck with her application.

KA is applying to Medicine at Oxford and has an eloquent personal statement with an impressive range of achievements and beyond-the-syllabus reading. I cleared up a few areas which I thought risked being misinterpreted and helped make the statement more concise to allow KA to add a few more reflections. My more general comments will help KA ensure the statement is closely aligned with Oxford’s expectations and not missing a couple of important elements. It was refreshing to read the statement of someone so academically curious!

Sam’s daughter’s personal statement showed great potential from the beginning, with lots of relevant experiences and interesting reflections to include that are great for Medicine applications. I’m glad I was able to bring the most out of her and help her statement reach an impressively high standard.

Mackenzie aspires to study Dentistry at university and their draft personal statement contained many impressive achievements. I’m glad I was able to offer lots of constructive feedback about the content of the statement and where can improved and where can be rephrased to save characters.

Great writing style and clearly a lot of experience to include. We rephrased quite a lot to increase clarity and to free up words and adjusted the tone to make sure the statement was ‘reflective’ as opposed to just stating the facts! Well done Robin!
