About Zia
I am currently a second year studying Biochemistry (MBioChem) at Oxford University until 2026.
My passion for teaching originated in year 10 when I fundraised for a school in Ghana and was offered an opportunity to teach a lesson there.
At degree level I achieved a 1st in my most recent collections
At GCSEs I achieved 9 9s, 2 A*s, an A and an 8
At A levels I achieved 3A*s and an A
I was awarded Best in my School (Gold) in the UKMT junior maths challenge and Silver in the Cambridge chemistry challenge.
I was the Deputy Head Boy, Sports captain and Science Prefect at my school and currently write for a monthly online science newsletter.
I have been a tutor for 2 years and have significantly improved my students grades.

A typical lesson may last 1-2 hours and will mostly include going through questions set before the lesson, similar to how tutorials are taught at Oxford. This allows me to expose areas of the course you are unsure about and help you understand them fully . There will also be time set aside in each lessons to answer questions you may have about the course/subject or related topics. Towards the end of each lesson, we will go through extension questions together in order to extend your knowledge slightly beyond the scope of your course. I find this makes exams much easier and it can even be enjoyable!
I am happy to teach any age, at any level up to and including A level. I have significant experience teaching and coaching younger children but I am also happy to teach anyone older
My approach to tutoring involves solidifying my students knowledge of the basic principles which make up their subject, enabling them to work out answers themselves, rather than just learn them by route. I aim to introduce concepts beyond the scope of the course to stretch and further deepen my students knowledge of their subject. I find this also reintroduces enjoyment and curiosity back into learning; I encourage my students to question everything, and I will guide them to the answers to their own questions. Additional information or conceptual help will be provided by me only when needed.
