About Salma
Marḥaba! My name is Salma Daoudi, and I am a native Arabic speaker as well as a DPhil (PhD) researcher at the University of Oxford. Arabic is not just my first language, it’s part of my identity and culture, and I love sharing it with students from all backgrounds. I want to teach Arabic because I know how rewarding it feels when you can express yourself in a new language, whether that’s greeting someone with confidence, understanding a film without subtitles, or reading poetry in its original form. My aim is to make that journey enjoyable and achievable for you! My lessons are professional but welcoming: a space where you can make mistakes, ask questions, and learn at your own pace. With me, you’ll go beyond memorising words: you’ll gain cultural insights, practical speaking skills, and the confidence to bring Arabic into your daily life. By the end of each session, I want you to feel not just more skilled, but also more inspired to keep learning. Yallah?

Arabic
Arabic is a language of poetry, history, and everyday life, and I teach it with that richness in mind. My approach blends structured learning, covering grammar, vocabulary, and reading, with immersive practice through conversation, listening, and cultural materials (get ready for playlists featuring artists ranging from Fairuz to Saint Levant!) For those studying Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), I place a strong focus on grammar, reading, and writing, ensuring solid foundations. For learners interested in Levantine or Moroccan dialects, I emphasise speaking and listening, so you can communicate naturally in everyday contexts. Above all, I tailor every class to your goals (whether that’s passing an exam, travelling with ease, improving workplace skills, or simply enjoying the beauty of the language). My lessons are designed to be clear, purposeful, and motivating. Most sessions run for 60 minutes, which allows enough time to introduce new material and practise it thoroughly. For students preparing for exams or looking for faster progress, I also offer 90-minute sessions. Qualifications & Experience I combine academic expertise with lived cultural experience. I am a DPhil (PhD) candidate in International Relations at the University of Oxford, specialising in Middle East politics and fluent in Arabic, French, and English. As a native Arabic speaker, I have deep knowledge of both Modern Standard Arabic and dialects, including Levantine and Moroccan. My background spans years of tutoring students of all ages and levels—from complete beginners to advanced learners—alongside a professional career in research, policy, and international work across the Middle East. This allows me to offer not just language instruction, but also cultural insight and real-world context. My teaching is flexible and tailored to a wide range of learners, including: School and university students preparing for GCSE, A-Level, or academic Arabic courses. Adult learners eager to study Arabic for travel, culture, or personal enrichment. Professionals in NGOs, international organisations, or business who want to strengthen their Arabic for work. Learners interested in Modern Standard Arabic as well as spoken dialects like Levantine and Moroccan. Wherever you are starting from, I will guide you step by step towards greater fluency, confidence, and enjoyment of the Arabic language!
