About Toby
Hi, I’m Toby! I’m a friendly and experienced tutor who loves helping students build confidence in Further Maths, Maths and Physics (GCSE, A Level, and University Entrance). I focus on making sense of tricky topics and sharing practical strategies for tackling even the toughest exam questions.
I’m currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Oxford, having previously achieved a First-Class degree in Mathematics from Durham University and a Master’s with Distinction from Imperial College London. I also achieved 10 A* at GCSE and 3 A* at A-Level.
My lessons are ideal for students who want to deepen their understanding, boost confidence, and achieve top grades. I know how challenging it can be to turn knowledge into strong exam performance—many students grasp the material but struggle to recognise patterns or apply what they’ve learned effectively. My approach focuses on breaking down questions, highlighting common structures, and showing students how to craft clear, model answers across all difficulty levels. I'm confident teaching any area of Further Mathematics, from Core Pure to applied options.
I believe anyone can make sense of maths with the right support. Success often starts with building confidence and realising that the subject can actually be enjoyable. In lessons, I explain ideas clearly, work through examples step by step, and give plenty of guided practice and feedback — because the best way to learn maths is to do maths.
