About Trevor
My name is Trevor and I am a PhD researcher at the University of Oxford and an international journalist. Over the past 20 years, I have worked for leading newspapers including The Sunday Times, Yahoo News, and the Korea JoongAng Daily, producing high-quality news, features, and interviews. Alongside journalism, I have extensive academic experience, with degrees from Oxford and Sydney. What drives me as a tutor is helping students develop confidence in their ideas and express them clearly. I understand how demanding essays, exams, and applications can be, and I aim to give students practical tools and clear guidance to succeed. I work with GCSE and A-level students, university students, and professionals who want to sharpen their English writing and communication. My sessions are tailored, supportive and designed to help every student progress.

My approach is student-focused and practical. In our first session, I review a short piece of your work or ask you to complete a quick task so I can understand your current level, strengths, and areas to improve. From there, I create a structured plan with clear goals, whether that’s raising exam grades, improving essay writing, or preparing for university applications.
A typical lesson includes:
Targeted practice: working on essay structure, argument flow, clarity of expression, or comprehension.
Live feedback: I annotate and explain your writing in real time so you see exactly how to improve.
