About Nicole
A fun, passionate tutor, I have several years' experience as a tutor for English, History and UCAS applications, with a specialism in Oxbridge entry. I take an engaging and fun approach to tuition, as I believe the best way is to learn is by having fun. Success stories One candidate initially applied to universities across the UK, however was unhappy with his options. I successfully mentored him throughout the re-application process, and we worked extensively on his UCAS application and tailored it to top Russell Group universities. With my help, he successfully gained entry to his top choices. Another candidate initially achieved an E grade in his A-Level English. He was unhappy with his grades, so we worked to boost not only his grades, but his overall confidence and command of the subject. Meeting twice a week to conduct intensive lessons, I successfully took his grade from an E to a B. I have also taught English as a foreign language online, for a school based in Peru. I worked with two classes of 30 8 – 10 year olds and, by the end of our sessions, I am pleased to report they had an excellent command of the English language. Some students were even capable of reading articles in English from The Times and The Guardian.

Approach I believe essay writing, and essay-based subjects, is a skill that anyone can learn. To teach these subjects, I adopt a holistic approach: I begin by identifying points of weakness, before targeting these challenges in an Oxford-style setting. This involves close reading of the text, critical thinking, and engaging with ideas and key theorists. This approach allows me to challenge more confident students who are aiming for top universities by exposing them to ideas that go beyond the curriculum, ideas that will impress examiners. Additionally, this approach allows me to support those who are less confident and ensures that we spend sufficient time on each target area.
