About Ruby
I have over seven years of private tutoring experience in Primary, Secondary Mathematics, Geography, Combined Science. I hold a First Class Honours Bachelor's degree in Geography. As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with extensive experience in inner-city schools, I have developed a strong ability to adapt my teaching methods to the diverse needs and personalities of each student, including those with SENs such as dyslexia and ADHD. I excel at simplifying complex mathematical concepts, making them clear and understandable, and use my knowledge and patience to ensure effective tutoring. I have a high success rate in helping Primary and Secondary students achieve top scores in Geography, Mathematics, and Combined Science, as well as supporting Year 11, 12 and 13 students in their final public exam in Geography and Mathematics during their final push. My students consistently make significant improvements and excel in their exams. I build trusted relationships with young clients quickly and keep parents well-informed about each session’s progress through smooth and efficient communication. I am passionate about private tutoring because it allows me to support students in achieving their academic goals in GCSE, A-Level, and IB, and to inspire and motivate them to develop a love for learning. My only expectation is that they try their best—not to compare themselves to others, but to give their personal best effort so as to pursue their future goals. I have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate.

I teach online via Skype and WhatsApp, offering flexible lesson lengths (minimum 1 hour) and schedules tailored to each student’s needs. I’m also available daily through WhatsApp to answer any questions. During our lessons, we focus on understanding concepts, addressing gaps in knowledge, building a strong foundation, revising material, and practising for exams. My organised approach involves preparing detailed lesson plans, identifying areas of difficulty, and designing targeted strategies for GCSE, A-Level, and IB preparation. I provide additional lessons during exam periods, assign homework, and give feedback on previous assignments. By adhering to the specific GCSE and A-Level exam board syllabuses, I utilise a comprehensive collection of books, practice questions, and online resources to ensure that students are well-prepared and familiar with exam formats. The lesson could be taught in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

I have had the privilege of working closely with Ruby Chen over the past two years in her role as a Teaching Assistant. Throughout this period, I have been consistently impressed by her dedication, work ethic, and overall high standard of performance.
Ruby demonstrated exceptional ability to build meaningful relationships with the children under her care, both in Year 1 and Year 2. She gained their trust and respect through her warm, approachable demeanour and her genuine care for their well-being and development.
Her strong organizational skills, coupled with her nurturing approach, made her an invaluable asset to our school.
In the classroom, Ruby was highly effective in delivering phonics instruction, leading interventions, and supporting small groups of students. She had an excellent ability to model and explain concepts clearly, adapting her approach to meet the diverse needs of the students including those with Special Educational Needs. Her calm and composed manner helped create a positive and conducive learning environment, and the children responded to her with enthusiasm and engagement.
Beyond her academic support, Ruby excelled in her application of welfare-related responsibilities. She was adept in handling children’s personal hygiene needs, providing essential diabetic care, and administering basic first aid when necessary. Her compassion and attentiveness ensured that each child felt cared for and supported in every aspect of their school experience.
Ruby was also an outstanding collaborator within the classroom team. She contributed thoughtful ideas for improving classroom practices and embraced new approaches with enthusiasm. Her ability to work seamlessly with colleagues and communicate effectively with parents was a testament to her team-oriented mindset and strong interpersonal skills. Ruby’s positive relationships with parents reflected her approachable nature and her genuine commitment to the children’s holistic development.
In addition to her academic and pastoral strengths, Ruby's artistic and creative talents were regularly on display in the classroom. She used these skills to enhance the learning environment and engage the children in a variety of creative activities, further enriching their educational experience.
In summary, Ruby Chen has been a highly valued member of our team. Her commitment, professionalism, and creativity made a significant impact on both the children and the wider school community. I have no doubt that she will continue to thrive and contribute positively wherever her career takes her.

I have worked alongside Ruby for a couple of years, Ruby is very professional and extremely trustworthy and reliable. I would recommend Ruby because the time I have spent working alongside Ruby she has shown her patience and passion for teaching and always gives 100 percent in all she does.
Ruby is trustworthy and supportive. She will help learners to understand fully and think of interesting and engaging ways to all she works with. Ruby is always on time and works in a professional manner.
I have been a student of Ruby for over 8 years now and I can personally attest to her well-cultivated teaching skill sets. She is able to break down complex concepts, provide straightforward examples in almost every subject (of which includes Geography, Mathematics and the Sciences) and explain it in easily digestible parts, even for infamously challenging IB courses. With her tutoring lessons, my grades in virtually every subject skyrocketed and it eventually boosted my rank from 20th to 3rd in the entire grade. In addition, she is able to create a healthy learning environment, striking a balance between a free-spirited atmosphere where no one is judged for asking questions that may be viewed as "stupid" in others' eyes, and a reasonably disciplined setting that helps students cultivate skills and habits that are crucial to having a successful academic career, such as critical thinking and time-management. Furthermore, she is a considerate and encouraging person who truly wishes the best for all her students. Even through tough times where my workload was overbearing, she always reminded me to take a break and recharge, and it always puts me in the right headspace to continue on and not give up midway. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Ruby enough. She not only is a perspicuous tutor but also a great role model for any student of hers.
I had the opportunity to meet Ruby in her last job. Ruby is responsible and knows what she wants and goes after it.
