About James
I’m a dedicated Organic Chemistry tutor and current TA for BYU’s Chem 351 course. Teaching orgo every week has given me a lot of experience helping students overcome the exact challenges that make this class feel intimidating, and I work hard to make concepts clear, approachable, and actually enjoyable to learn. I’m patient, organized, and committed to helping every student build real confidence. I’m originally from Montgomery, Alabama, and I’m now a pre-med neuroscience student at BYU. I also play for the BYU Men’s soccer team, which has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to help others stay motivated; skills that really strengthen my tutoring. Outside of athletics, I genuinely love science, and that excitement comes through in the way I teach. Students can count on me to create a supportive environment where it’s okay to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at your own pace. If you’re willing to put in the effort, I’ll be right there with you, helping you succeed in Organic Chemistry.

My lessons are designed to make Organic Chemistry finally click. As a current TA for BYU’s Chem 351 course, I understand exactly where students get stuck, whether it’s mechanisms, synthesis, spectroscopy, or exam strategy. I focus on breaking down tough concepts into simple, step-by-step ideas and using lots of practice problems so you can build confidence quickly.
A typical session starts by reviewing what you’re learning in class, identifying weak spots, and then walking through mechanisms together in a way that actually makes sense. I’m big on pattern recognition, visual learning, and showing you why reactions work, not just asking you to memorize them.
What sets me apart is that I’ve taken the course recently, I teach it every week as a TA, and I know how to prepare you for the kinds of questions your professors will actually ask. My lessons are great for high-school students, college students, pre-meds, or anyone trying to master orgo for the first time.
My goal is to help you succeed, feel confident, and maybe even enjoy organic chemistry a little along the way.
