I am Mrs. Deanna, and I bridge the gap between evidence-based instruction and the heart-centered approach every child deserves. With a background in professional communication, an Associate of Arts, and "lived-in" experience as a homeschool educator, I understand that reading isn't just an academic skill—it’s the foundation of a child’s self-esteem.

My journey into the Science of Reading began at home, where I used structured literacy to ensure my own children transitioned into public school reading well above grade level. Today, I bring that same dedication to my students, combining the technical rigor of orthographic mapping and morphology with the patience of a parent who has been "in the trenches." Whether your student is in a public, private, or homeschool setting, my 60-minute, one-on-one sessions are designed to provide the consistency and specialized focus needed to master the mechanics of language.

To ensure the safety and success of every student, I operate with a Parent-First advocacy model. This means I work exclusively and directly with parents or legal guardians for all bookings, consultations, and progress updates. I believe a strong partnership between the tutor and the family is the most effective way to support a child's literacy journey.

Scheduling & Cancellation Policy
To ensure every student receives my full focus and a consistent routine, I maintain a strict schedule. Because these one-on-one sessions are tailored specifically to your child’s needs, that time is reserved exclusively for them and cannot be filled on short notice.

Consequently, my policy is a 100% charge for the full session if it is canceled with less than 24 hours' notice. Additionally, arrivals more than 15 minutes late are considered a "no-show" and will be billed in full to respect the schedules of all families and our shared instructional goals.

About the lesson

I use Structured Literacy, an explicit and systematic approach to the English language. I teach students the "code" of our language. We move beyond simple memorization into the mechanics of Phonology (sounds), Orthography (letter patterns), Morphology (word parts), and Etymology (word origins). My mission is to help 2nd - 5th grade students bridge the gap from simple CVC words to the complex, multisyllabic reading required for upper elementary success.

As a mother of two children who I personally taught to read above grade level using these exact methods, I understand the emotional weight of a child’s literacy journey. I am a non-traditional college student with an Associate of Arts, which means I bring both academic rigor and real-world parental empathy to every session. I know how to translate complex linguistic concepts into "kid-friendly" wins.

Each 60-Minute Individual Session Includes:
Confidence Warm-up: A positive, high-success start designed to build momentum and mindset.

Focused Skill-Building: Targeted, multisensory work on Orthographic Mapping and decoding.

Guided Practice: Reading high-interest texts precisely matched to the student's phonetic level.

Reflection: Reinforcing successes to build self-regulation and pride.

Need a boost in spelling accuracy through the application of phonetic rules.

Are transitioning between homeschool and traditional school environments.

To provide the focused, individualized care your child deserves, I offer private, one-on-one sessions exclusively. I do not facilitate group or shared sessions, as my curriculum is custom-built for one brain at a time.

Policies for Success:
Guardian Policy: For the safety and success of the student, all bookings and initial consultations must be made directly by a parent or legal guardian.

No-Show & Cancellation Policy: To maintain instructional integrity and respect the schedules of all families, I adhere to a strict 24-hour notice requirement. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, or arrivals more than 15 minutes late, will be considered a "no-show" and billed at the full 100% rate.

Our Success Roadmap
Session #1 – The Free 30 Min Consultation:
Our first meeting is a virtual "Meet and Greet." This allows us to meet so you know you are working with a dedicated professional, Mrs. Deanna, not a stranger. I will show you my resources, explain my methodology, and we can discuss your child's specific interests.

The Initial Assessment:
Our first paid session is a comprehensive Structured Literacy Assessment. Because this is a deep dive into your child's current skills (phonemic awareness, decoding, and encoding), this must be conducted as a private, individual 60-minute session.

Assessment-Led Instruction:
We start with a formal assessment to track growth, celebrate wins, and pivot our strategy.

Multisensory Engagement:
Using tools like Pencils Virtual Classroom and Google Classroom, lessons are fast-paced, interactive, and fun. We use digital manipulatives to make abstract sounds feel "tangible."

Self-Regulation Support:
I teach more than just "letters"—I help students manage the frustration that often comes with dyslexia or learning gaps. We build the "stamina" for reading alongside the skill.

The Skill Plan:
Based on the assessment, I design an Individualized Skill Plan spanning 4 to 6 weeks. Depending on your child's needs, we will meet once or two times per week.

Reassessment:
At the 6-week mark, we perform a formal reassessment to measure growth, celebrate progress, and update the learning plan.
