About Whitney
You likely seek a clear path toward musical fluency. My background spans 13 years of performing and teaching throughout San Francisco.
I have taught a diverse range of students, from those prepping for college auditions to adults starting from scratch. Each individual receives rigorous instruction tuned to their specific ambitions. MTNA standards form the bedrock of my methodology, helping students succeed in state auditions and Certificate of Merit exams at honors levels.
Your personal goals drive the pace and content of our work together. Building technical proficiency requires patience and a steady hand. My work with students involves refining pedaling technique and developing total hand independence. We also explore jazz improvisation, sight reading, and music theory.
I ensure you feel ready for ABRSM or Trinity grade exams or pop and contemporary performance. Whatever the target, we define the roadmap clearly.

Stiff fingers often betray a lack of proper technique during complex passages. Picture sitting at the keyboard while we isolate these tension points to restore fluid movement.
I integrate custom sheet music arrangements for the songs you specifically choose to play. This approach bridges the gap between technical drill and genuine artistic expression. Sight playing becomes a natural extension of your practice routine rather than a chore.
Developing your unique sound remains the primary focus of these 7 minute segments of intensive review. Perhaps we refine the phrasing until it sits just right.
