About Sahana
Hi, I’m Sahana, a passionate vocal coach, NYU Music Business student, and experienced performer with over a decade of vocal training across multiple genres. With a strong foundation in vocal technique, performance, and music theory, I help students refine their artistry and build confidence in their unique voices. Currently studying at NYU’s prestigious Music Business program, I bring real-world industry insights and professional expertise to my coaching, ensuring that my students not only develop strong vocal techniques but also gain a deeper understanding of the music industry. My extensive performance experience spans across seven languages and multiple styles, including contemporary pop, musical theater, western classical, Indian classical, jazz, and more. As the founder of a music health nonprofit, I have led interactive music therapy workshops for over 600 people, integrating vocal training with emotional well-being. My teaching approach is highly personalized—tailoring each lesson to the student’s voice type, goals, and preferred genres, whether they are beginners, aspiring recording artists, or seasoned performers looking to refine their craft. I emphasize vocal health, breath control, stage presence, and overcoming performance anxiety, equipping my students with the skills to confidently perform in front of an audience. With experience in artist management, live performance production, and music therapy, I offer valuable guidance for students who want to navigate the music industry while mastering their vocal abilities. I believe that every singer has a unique voice that deserves to be nurtured with the right techniques and confidence-building exercises. My goal is to help students develop their vocal abilities in a healthy, sustainable way while fostering creativity and musical expression.
Teaching Method & Techniques
Personalized Approach: I tailor lessons to each student’s voice, goals, and musical preferences, whether they want to sing pop, classical, musical theater, or other genres.
Strong Vocal Foundation: I focus on breath control, pitch accuracy, vocal range expansion, and resonance to develop a strong, versatile voice.
Ear Training & Music Theory: Understanding music theory enhances musicality, so I incorporate note recognition, solfège, and rhythm exercises.
Performance Coaching: I guide students in stage presence, expression, and overcoming performance anxiety.
Multi-Language & Multi-Genre Training: My experience singing in multiple languages allows me to help students expand their repertoire and diction.
Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-Ups & Vocal Exercises – Breathing techniques, vocal agility drills, and range-expanding exercises.
Technique Work – Resonance, articulation, vowel shaping, and healthy vocal production.
Repertoire Practice – Working on songs based on the student’s genre preference, with emphasis on interpretation and technique.
Music Theory & Ear Training – Strengthening pitch recognition, scales, and harmonization skills.
Performance & Expression Coaching – Developing confidence and stage presence for live or recorded performances.
