About Kiera
I am a music teacher, musician, ELA tutor, and illustrator who was born and raised in The Bronx. I have an associate degree in early childhood education from Hostos Community College, a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from NYU, and I am currently pursuing my master's degree in music and music education at Teachers College, Columbia University. I am passionate about New York history in general, and Bronx history in particular. I enjoy making reading and music skills come to life through history, colors, and food!

I love helping young learners build the skills they need to be independent readers. I build lessons inspired by their interests infused with arts, crafts, music, and play. I have a responsive approach to teaching and building relationships with my students. A typical lesson begins with a body warm-up or an icebreaker followed by a review of skills covered in the previous lesson or homework, and a lesson that addresses learning gaps. I offer children a 2-minute body/brain break before their independent practice, which helps them reset for their work ahead. I close with a recap of the lesson, and time for questions, and then children receive a sticker for their efforts.
Please note: I do not tutor in homes but at the local library or another, agreed upon public location.
