About Maria
I am a NYFA-trained filmmaker, Raindance alum, and founder of an international production company focusing on emotionally grounded, global, diverse, and visually rich storytelling. My work has been recognised at major festivals, including Edinburgh and Lift-Off. I’ve directed projects with Emmy-winning crew and SAG-AFTRA actors, some of whom have appeared in Oscar-affiliated films. I am developing a remote film festival that supports bold, international, and underrepresented voices, leading multiple original productions, including a Sundance Lab 2026 script submission (in consideration), and a short being considered by multiple Berlinale and Rotterdam producers. I’ve provided screenwriting and post-production support to international clients via Fiverr, including a private game studio in China. I bring that same standard of collaboration and narrative precision to my students. I’ve been accepted into top UK film and creative programmes, including the London Film Academy, University of South Wales, AUB, University for the Creative Arts, and the University of Glasgow. My lessons are built around helping students write stories that are bold, emotionally honest, and cinematic. I don’t limit students to safe or conventional narratives; instead, I encourage them to explore the difficult or unusual themes they’re often told to avoid. Because it trains them to unlock the industry superpower, creative voice. Something the industry prefers any day over "perfect structure" and is rarely discussed. I combine creative freedom with a clear structure. I guide students through character, visual language, scene rhythm, and story arcs using techniques developed through my training at the New York Film Academy and Raindance. A typical session runs 60 minutes and may include reviewing the student’s writing, brainstorming new material, or working through practical writing exercises. I teach through active dialogue, live feedback, and professional script development methods drawn from my own directing and screenwriting work. I’ve provided creative consulting and post-production support to international clients, including a private video game company in China, and my work with SAG-AFTRA actors and Emmy-winning collaborators gives me deep insight into industry standards. These sessions are ideal for beginner to intermediate writers aged 16 and up, including aspiring filmmakers, film school applicants, or creative writing students interested in screenwriting. Whether you're building a script from scratch or refining a film school portfolio, each lesson is adapted to meet your goals.
