About Nicholas

We all know that STEM classes can be equal parts intimidating and boring, and traditional classrooms often fail people who don't fit into a standard academic mold. I firmly believe that anyone can understand math, physics, or coding—you just need someone to explain it in a way that makes sense to your brain.

I hold an undergraduate degree in physics, a master's degree in computer science, and am currently employed as a practicing engineer in Academia. I know this material inside and out, but I am far more interested in being an accessible, inclusive resource than a rigid academic. My goal is to create a space where everyone feels welcome and supported.

Here is what you can expect from me

An Inclusive, Welcoming Space:
I am committed to working with students from all walks of life, including marginalized communities, neurodivergent thinkers, and anyone who has ever felt out of place in a science or math lecture. Your perspective is a strength, not a roadblock, and I adapt my teaching to fit you.

Less Jargon
Because I use these concepts daily in my job, I can look past the dense textbook language. I break things down into logical, tangible concepts, skipping the academic gatekeeping and focusing on what actually matters.

Patience Over Perfection
Learning requires making mistakes, and my sessions are a zero-judgment zone. No question is too basic. We will tackle the frustrating spots together, at whatever pace feels right for you.

You are completely capable of mastering this stuff, and I'd be happy to help you along your journey.

My Approach: Making Concepts Click
I focus on building an intuitive understanding of topics rather than forcing memorization. Instead of just handing you formulas to memorize for a test, I break ideas down into understandable, everyday concepts and analogies. Together, we'll try to understand the "why" as well as the "how." Everyone learns differently, so I don't use a rigid, one-size-fits-all teaching style. I adapt my explanations to match how your brain processes information.

Typical Lesson
Min 0–10, Check-In
We look at your current homework or roadblocks. Instead of just finding the "wrong answer," we pinpoint the exact concept causing the confusion.

Min 10–35, Breakdown
We strip away the confusing textbook jargon, discussing the core theory and breaking it down to its base concepts. From here, we tackle the original problem with our newfound structural understanding.

Min 35–55, Problem Solving
You take the lead on solving practice problems. I guide you through the tough spots and show you how to systematically tackle tricky variations or curveballs on your own.

Min 55–60, Wrap-Up
We summarize the core breakthrough of the lesson so you know exactly what to focus on before our next session.

I know you aren't a robot, and I don't treat you like one. Everyone can be taught how to solve a triangle, but far fewer people can explain the innate connections between the unit circle and trig identities. I find that genuinely understanding how the different parts of a theory coalesce into a grand idea is inspiring, and I want to share that knowledge and joy with others. I am a patient and flexible communicator, so if one explanation isn’t clicking, we can keep pivoting until we find the right angle of approach.

I tutor students of all levels who want to build confidence in STEM fields. I'm specifically interested in working with young people who have trouble understanding the reasoning behind a process, as I enjoy breaking down complex topics into their logical base.

Best, Nick
