About Ben
Though I've started as a classical pianist, I've quickly wanted to explore different aspects of all music. From playing piano at various jazz ensembles, playing keyboards in many different bands, getting invited to perform at Eastridge and Play it Strange concerts, composing and arranging my own pieces, music directing various programs, playing keyboards for many musicals (e.g., Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Aotea Centre), and receiving my NCEA Music Top Scholar award - My experience is wide and varied, which helps me teach and understand every student and their unique musical attitude and style.

I'll be with and guide you throughout the whole process - choosing the right keyboard, figuring out your current level and short and long-term goals, and exploring different pieces, songs, and styles. I always match my teaching style to the student: whether you've never played before and want to learn music theory in depth, or whether you're looking to find new styles, jam and improv. My lessons always focus on the broader picture - the background of the pieces we'll learn, the techniques and terms we can pick from it, how we can give interpretation to it, etc.
