About Fizz

I am a native Urdu speaker, raised speaking, reading, and writing the language from childhood. This gives me an intuitive command of natural pronunciation, idiomatic expression, and everyday usage that goes beyond textbook Urdu, the kind of fluency that comes only from growing up with a language. I understand firsthand how Urdu is actually spoken in daily life, across formal and informal contexts, and I bring that authentic, real-world perspective into every lesson.

My approach centers on communicative, immersion-style learning rather than rote memorization. I build lessons around real conversation from day one, even beginners practice greetings, everyday phrases, and simple dialogues in the first session. I combine this with:

Script-first literacy work: systematic Nastaliq script instruction (reading and writing) alongside spoken practice, since many learners in the US want both conversational fluency and literacy.

Contextual grammar: grammar points are introduced through usage (stories, dialogues, song lyrics, news clips) rather than isolated drills, so structures stick because they're tied to meaning.

Repetition through variety: the same vocabulary or grammar point resurfaces across different formats a short story, a listening clip, a speaking prompt so it's reinforced without feeling repetitive.

Cultural context woven in: proverbs, poetry (especially Urdu's rich tradition of ghazal and shairi), food, festivals, and etiquette are used as teaching material, not side notes, because language and culture are inseparable in Urdu.

Correction with encouragement: I correct pronunciation and grammar in the moment but prioritize keeping students talking fluency first, precision refined over time.

A Typical Lesson Plan (for a 45–60 minute session)

Warm-up (5 min) – Casual conversation in Urdu to ease in and review previously learned material.

Review (5–10 min) – Quick recap of last lesson's vocabulary or grammar through Q&A or a short exercise.

New material (15–20 min) – Introduce new vocabulary, grammar, or script work, always with example sentences and real-life context.

Practice (10–15 min) – Guided speaking or writing practice: role-play, reading aloud, sentence-building, or short writing tasks.

Application (5–10 min) – Apply the new material in a freer context — a mini conversation, a short paragraph, or discussing a cultural topic.

Wrap-up (5 min) – Summary, homework assignment, and a preview of the next lesson.

Lessons flex depending on the learner, a heritage speaker working on literacy needs a different balance than an absolute beginner or an adult learning for professional reasons.

What Sets Me Apart
I treat Urdu not just as a language but as a doorway into a literary and cultural tradition, I bring in poetry, film, and music naturally, which keeps learners (especially teens and adults) genuinely engaged rather than just "getting through" lessons.
I tailor materials rather than using a fixed textbook track heritage learners, complete beginners, and academic learners each get a customized plan.
I'm comfortable teaching both spoken Urdu and the Nastaliq script, which not every tutor offers together.
I build in accountability and consistent progress tracking, so students and parents can see measurable improvement over time.

Who My Lessons Are For

Heritage speakers (often Pakistani-American or South Asian-American kids/teens) who understand spoken Urdu at home but want to read, write, or speak more confidently.

Complete beginners: adults or students studying Urdu for academic, professional, family, or personal-interest reasons.
K-12 students needing supplemental language instruction or help meeting a world-language credit requirement.

College students studying South Asian languages, literature, or area studies.

Adult learners connecting with family, planning to travel, or pursuing an interest in Urdu literature and poetry.

Lessons are adaptable across all proficiency levels beginner, intermediate, and advanced and can be structured for conversational fluency, literacy (reading/writing), exam prep, or a mix of all three
