About Roxana
Hello there, I was born, raised, and educated in one of the beautiful South American countries, Argentina. While living in Argentina, I finished the basic elementary teaching preparation dictated by the university system in Argentina, and I transferred those units to the University of La Verne in order to obtain a higher education degree in the United States. With my international education background, and the desire to provide all students with an excellent education, my teaching philosophy has been centered on sharing my culture with high school students while teaching them my native language. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and to help them blossom into well-rounded, responsible, and successful individuals. I believe that in today’s multicultural Californian communities, and throughout the United States, knowing a second language and the particulars of another culture are essential to any young person’s future success as a professional. I aim to provide a stimulating and a progressive learning environment that promotes “learning by doing” and encourages students to trust themselves to gain confidence and realize their full potential. As a teacher, I implement activities that focus on the essential information of the material I am teaching to help students focus on the basics. It is from this knowledge foundation that I can then help students grow more rapidly and effectively. By teaching students a foreign language and about foreign cultures, I strive to make students more socially aware, and to prepare them for today and tomorrow’s world, where social conscience in an increasingly culturally mixed southern California is an invaluable skill. Students need to be taught how to form and learn strategies that will take them from start to finish. Through my teaching experience, I have learned that if students construct and apply their own learning strategies in daily life settings, they will not only retain learned information longer, but they will also become more self-confident. It is the teacher’s responsibility to guide and lead his/her students down the right path, and help those students overcome obstacles and disappointments. Academic teaching often requires one to also teach life lessons and guide students through personal challenges. This challenging aspect of being a teacher is a gift that no other career can provide. In the classroom, I like to use different teaching techniques in order to motivate and instill the desire of learning in my students. It is challenging because every student is different; therefore, as a teacher, I like to learn and implement new ways to reach out and touch students in order to fulfill my goals as an educator and a mentor. In short, I am a teacher because it offers the opportunity to teach a piece of my culture and lend my ear and experience to young people for help outside of class.

I have different approaches when teaching the language depending on the level and the student. ~When introducing a new lesson, I like to compare it to the English language and explain why it doesn't work exactly the same way as in English. ~I love to teach. I've been teaching my language and culture for over 20 years and my experiences as a teacher have been rewarding and soul fulfilling. ~My lessons are designed for high school students as well as college students. Still, because of my lengthy experience, my lessons can be successfully adapted to any grade level [K-12]
