About Yew
Hi! I’m a native Mandarin speaker from Malaysia, and I was educated in the Chinese school system, where I developed a strong foundation in reading, writing and speaking. I achieved an A in SPM Chinese, and Mandarin has always been a natural part of my daily life and education.
I want to teach because I understand that learning Mandarin can feel challenging at first, especially with tones and characters, and I enjoy helping others overcome that initial barrier. I find it really rewarding to see students grow in confidence and start expressing themselves in a new language. My goal is to make Mandarin simple, approachable and practical for you, so you can not only understand it but actually use it in real-life situations.

I use a clear and structured teaching approach focused on building strong foundations in pronunciation (pinyin), vocabulary and sentence structure, while keeping lessons interactive through conversation practice, repetition and real-life examples to help you actually use Mandarin with confidence. Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes, with flexibility depending on your needs. As a native Mandarin speaker educated in the Chinese school system in Malaysia, I achieved an A in SPM and UEC Chinese, have a strong academic foundation in reading, writing and speaking. My lessons are suitable for beginners to intermediate learners, including school students (such as GCSE level) and adults who want to learn Mandarin for daily communication or academic purposes, and I adapt my pace and style to suit each student’s learning goals.
