About GuanTing
Hi! I'm a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker from China, currently studying for my bachelor's degree in English. ️ I've already had experience teaching Chinese to Canadian students and have hosted travelers from Germany, Russia, and the UK—so I understand how to connect with learners from different cultures. I'm especially passionate about modern Chinese history, and I love bringing topics like history, politics, and current events into my lessons to make learning more meaningful. Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling (I've explored Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Guilin, and Hunan), listening to music, watching movies (anything but horror!), and cooking. As a teacher, I'm relaxed and approachable. If a student feels nervous about speaking, I'll start by chatting in English to help them feel at ease, then gently guide them into Chinese at their own pace. My English is fluent enough for daily conversation, so I can explain tricky concepts clearly. I'm especially looking forward to teaching students who are curious about China—particularly those interested in history. Let's learn together!

Each lesson is tailored to your level and goals: we start with a warm-up conversation, introduce new vocabulary based on real-life topics, and end with guided speaking practice. I believe in "education for all" (有教无类), so I welcome students of any age or background. What sets me apart is my ability to explain cultural nuances in both Chinese and English, making learning more accessible and engaging for non-native speakers.
