About MIWA
Hello! My name is Miwa.
I’m from Sado Island, a small and beautiful island in the Sea of Japan. My family has been rice farmers there for over 200 years. In my hometown, people still live a traditional lifestyle—growing rice and vegetables, supporting each other, and celebrating local festivals at the shrine every year to pray for a good harvest.
Now I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Living in a country with very different cultures and values made me realize how special my own traditions are. That’s why I would love to share not only the Japanese language, but also everyday life, culture, and values from Japan with my students.
My lessons are relaxed and friendly. Don’t worry about mistakes—we learn together step by step. I hope we can enjoy fun conversations, practice natural Japanese, and discover more about Japan together!
I’m really looking forward to meeting you.

My lessons are fun, engaging, and designed to help you reach your goals. For beginners, I use my own original materials, making learning practical, enjoyable, and easy. For intermediate and advanced students, I incorporate articles and stories to further develop your skills. I focus on communicative teaching, where I’ll correct your grammar and pronunciation as we go along, ensuring you feel confident and supported. After each lesson, you’ll receive a list of new words and tips for review. I aim for you to not only learn the language but also discover something new about Japan. Each lesson is customized to suit your needs. I’m patient and relaxed, so please don’t worry about making mistakes—it’s all part of the learning process! I look forward to supporting you on your Japanese language journey!

Perfect! Miwa is an excellent Japanese language tutor who stands out for her friendliness, punctuality and effective teaching method. In my introductory lesson with her, I was impressed by her ability to seamlessly switch between Japanese and English, which made it easy for me to follow along and learn new words and phrases. Miwa's approach of using conversations in both languages was particularly helpful, as it allowed me to practice my speaking skills and get immediate feedback on my pronunciation and grammar. Overall, I would highly recommend Miwa to anyone looking for a patient and skilled Japanese language tutor.
