About Nina
I was born and raised in Switzerland and have been living in beautiful Golden Bay on the South Island of New Zealand for five years. I started learning foreign languages when I was 12 (French, English, Italian, Latin) and later learnt Spanish as an exchange student in Venezuela. I then went on to study history, Arabic and linguistics at university. My first tutoring jobs I got as a young teenager and I continued this work all through my school and uni years, e.g. teaching first-year Arabic students. I love languages and I love sharing my knowledge in a fun and informative manner.

In my lessons I want to pass on my love of languages, in particular my native German which I know can be hard and frustrating at times but so rewarding once you start to get it. I use a method that was developed by the German brain researcher Vera Birkenbiehl that approaches a foreign language as a code that we learn to crack. You don't have to learn new words off by heart but can look them up as many times as you need until you remember them through repetition - the same as a child learns their first language. Similarly, the grammar will start falling into place automatically.
All levels and ages are welcome and we can taylor the classes to suit your interests. Lessons are between one and two hours.
