About Amey
I'm a passionate and patient tutor with a strong academic background and a genuine love for teaching English. As a native English speaker and bilingual communicator, I understand the intricacies of language from multiple perspectives. I completed my undergraduate degree in finance and accounting, which taught me analytical thinking and attention to detail—skills I now apply to breaking down complex grammar rules and literary concepts in ways that are clear and easy to understand. Currently pursuing further education at UBC, I've also taken extensive coursework in biology, organic chemistry, and anatomy, which has strengthened my ability to explain difficult material systematically. I believe learning should be engaging and tailored to each student's unique needs and goals. Whether you're working on essay writing, poetry analysis, grammar fundamentals, or creative storytelling, I'm here to help you build confidence and achieve real progress. My approach to English tutoring is all about meeting students where they are and building their confidence through clear, structured lessons that actually make sense. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into manageable pieces, whether that's understanding grammar rules, analyzing poetry, or developing stronger writing skills.
A typical lesson starts with reviewing any previous work or homework to see where the student might be struggling. From there, we dive into the main topic—maybe it's working through essay structure, interpreting a poem, or practicing grammar exercises. I like to use real examples and relatable scenarios to make the material stick, and I encourage students to ask questions and think critically about what they're learning. We usually wrap up with practice exercises or a short assignment to reinforce what we covered.
What sets me apart is my analytical background and attention to detail. Having studied both finance and life sciences, I bring a systematic, problem-solving approach to teaching English. I'm also bilingual and have been speaking English my entire life, so I understand the nuances of the language from both a native speaker's perspective and someone who appreciates how language structure works. I'm patient, adaptable, and genuinely invested in helping students improve.
My lessons are designed for students at any level—whether you're in middle school struggling with grammar basics, a high school student working on essay writing and poetry analysis, or even an adult learner looking to strengthen your communication skills.
