My name is Ulfa and I am in my second year of university, studying an English Literature BA. I can teach English at primary, secondary and GCSE level.

About Ulfa
For me, teaching is a big responsibility as we can shape the minds of the future generation. This means not only providing them with an education, but instilling them with values and emotional intelligence that will give them the moral character they will need.
I have been teaching at a private school for a year and before that I tutored secondary pupils for a year. The most important lesson I have learnt is that I must always make pupils feel comfortable and able to ask questions. Many times, I have witnesses pupils feeling inadequate or unable to ask questions when they are unsure. As a teacher, I firmly believe we must encourage pupils to ask questions! This is the only way they can grow independently in knowledge and understanding. At the beginning of the year, the pupils were at the 'expected' or 'below expected' stage, however at the end of the academic year many were 'exceeding expectations'. I made sure to practice revision methods with the children, as I have noticed that many pupils do not know how to revise effectively.
I am currently in my second year of university studying English, but I have received A* in both English Literature and English Language at A-Level. At GCSE level I have received 9's for both English language and Literature also. I currently teach English and Humanities at a private school to secondary and primary pupils, and prior to that I have tutored secondary school pupils. In addition, I am working for a magazine which only enhances my ability to provide writing and editorial support.

Hi! I am excited to begin tutoring you. I believe that learning happens with practice and regular implementation of information learnt. This could mean anything from completing assessments, doing a presentation showcasing your knowledge, performing a speech or writing an essay. For our first lesson, I will give you a short test to assess what level you are at currently and how much assistance you will need. It is important to remember that majority of your learning will be independent; I can only teach you but you must make the efforts to revise. Our lessons will typically last an hour, and I will try to make myself flexible to your availability.
The structure of the lessons will mostly be shaped according to the needs of the pupil and their weaknesses. For example, if I notice the pupil does not know what the active/passive voice is, we will focus on how to write in the active/passive voice, identifying the active/passive voice in texts and analyse what the effect of this is. Unlike in a public school setting, my tutoring will be specifically catered towards the needs of the pupil.
