About PARABEL
I'm Pablo, originally from Tandil in Argentina and now based in Byron Bay. I started at the Isaias Orbe Conservatory in Tandil and kept going through music school in La Plata and Buenos Aires. I've played and recorded in Buenos Aires, Copenhagen and Australia, and I release my own music under the name PARABEL.
Most of the people I teach came to theory the long way round, the way I did: playing first, by ear, for years, and then wanting to understand what their hands already knew. That's a good position to start from and it makes for fast progress.
I teach because I like the moment when someone finally puts a name to something they've been hearing for years without being able to describe it. After that they start hearing it everywhere.
I'm patient, I don't rush anyone, and I'll tell you straight what's working and what isn't.

I'm Pablo, a musician and teacher with 12 years of experience. I trained as a professional musician in La Plata and Buenos Aires, I play piano, guitar, bass and synthesizers, and I write and produce my own music.
This is theory for people who make music, not theory for an exam. Lessons run 60 minutes and we work on your own material or on tunes you love. If you write songs, we take your songs apart. If you improvise, we work on what you're reaching for and can't quite find yet.
We start from function rather than naming: what a chord is doing, why it pulls where it pulls, and what else could go in that spot. From there, voice leading, tensions, modal interchange and reharmonization. For jazz specifically we work through voicings, then the language of improvisation over standards and over your own changes, then how to take a line you like and move it somewhere else.
You don't need to read music. I'll teach you to read a chart, which is what you'll actually use, and if you want traditional notation we can do that too.
I work on whichever instrument you play. Piano, guitar, bass, synth or voice. The theory doesn't change, only the shape under your hands.
Every lesson ends with one thing to work on before the next, and the next starts by playing it.

I met Parabel through mutual friends and he is just an absolute top bloke and one of those teachers you can tell genuinely likes teaching.
